My sprog is only 7, so too young for me to get her to sign a contract.

Looks to me like the oldest son knew the score and coughed up 5m NTD - he clearly dodged a bullet. I'm not sure how 22.33m NTD could possibly be "60% of net profit after income" (I'm still not quite sure what that means) for a dentist over a 20 year period. Is that how much dentists earn over here?

Anyway, they all sound like quite some family.

Sounds like she just made absolutely sure that nobody will look after her when she gets old.

Funny how these weird laws get upheld by a tiny minority of old codgers; clearly, all the lower courts thought she was barking mad.

I imagine the lawyers made a tidy sum out of all this, too.

We have this as a law in the old country. Your parents can sue you for support. Sometimes sums are ridiculous.

We also have reciprocity. If you father a child, you pay. Again, many men end in jail when the women ask exorbitant amounts.
