Don’t Miss the First Taiwanease Dinner Evening (3/17)

The 1st Taiwanease Dinner Evening

Image

I first tried the food at the Calcutta Indian Restaurant a few weeks ago and was sincerely impressed!!!

We – that is the effervescent Lili, charming jimipresley, and my own psychedelic self, stopped in there last night to eat more (the food is so damn good) and to chat to the owner.

We’re all set. Believe me, the food ROCKS! Moreover, I hope I’m not the only one who needs some time with my Taiwaneasian friends.

Where: Calcutta Indian Restaurant, no.126 KunMing Street, 1st Floor, XimenDing
(Across from ChengDu Road, beside the KFC; nearest MRT: Ximen; phone: 02-2389-3878)

When: 3/17 (Saturday) from 8 pm

Why: Nothing beats friends and good food!

Image

Don’t miss this one – it’s our FIRST and I’ll be there. All are welcome, but space is limited.

Taiwaneasians will be doing dinners every one or two months to sample cuisine around Taipei, and this will be our first. It's not a Happy Hour and it’s not a Curry Night (I’ll see you at those as well). But it is starting with really good curry and other delicious Indian food.

The owner’s setting aside tables for us during their busiest time of the week and stocking up on the BEER which we’ll be getting at a discount (NT$80 – Tiger, Corona, Heineken, etc.!)

If you let us know you are coming, your seat is assured. The food is great, the place is cozy, and everyone will want to sit next to me, so it’s best to RSVP here if you want a seat at 8. You could probably find place if you stop in a little later – around 9:30. And I’m sure nobody at Speakeasy will mind if some of us wander off after dinner to have a drink or two.

A review of the people going: None needed.

Wise decision, indeed.

After tonight's rendevous, I think Threadkiller, jimipresley, and myself came to the conclusion that the mutton samosas with mint sauce, palak paneer with garlic naan bread, tikka/tandoori chicken, and butter sauce chicken were great dishes, complemented by a very nice strawberry lassi. Between 2 grown men *cough* and one starving American girl, we could only finish half of our dishes.

This night will be a great night to make a new friend(s) by sharing two or three dishes (plus lassi and naan) between you.

Ooh! This one has my interest piqued. Can I put a "maybe" for me, Jojo and the brat? We have a school field trip to some kind of farm in Hsinchu during the day, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be in desperate need of some discourse with real people after that...

Looks exciting! I don't know if I'd call Lili effervescent, but I do love me some Indian food :)

It's starting to sound like a party - bells for maoman and a sari for MTJ. Image

By the way, they have some pretty decent vegetarian fare.

As a vegetarian I can certainly vouch for that. I've eaten there a couple of times and always been satisfied.

I will hopefully be in. I'll definitely be there if I'm in town, but there's a small chance that I'll be out in the field next week...

Me, hubby and the young'un will be coming, though we'll probably beat a hasty retreat once jimipresley's got a few in him (just kidding  ), so if anyone's coming later they could have our seats.

What's the sharing policy likely to be.

For me Indian sucks if you can't share at least 3 or 4 dishes. But I'm vegetarian, so it cuts down the sharing potential somewhat.

Also, what are the prices like?

I would certainly recommend sharing. The dishes are quite filling, so if you want to sample a few things, it's the only way to go. I'm certainly up for sampling some of the vegetarian fare.

When we ate there, JP and Lili and I ordered 3 dishes and each had a drink. I ordered another dish take away. There was still some of the 3 dishes left for a doggie bag. This came to under 2 000. (So 4 fulfilling dishes and 3 drinks for that amount.)
