Taiwan Beer: Pineapple and Mango (and now Grape and Orange!)

Postby maoman » Fri May 25, 2012 15:34

It's not bad! The pineapple is a little less sweet than the mango, and with less of a soda-pop aftertaste. But the mango isn't bad, either. And for some reason, it tastes REALLY good with shrimp! I'm not sure I'll buy either by the case, but I'll definitely buy both again.

The local microbreweries are also making litchie and honey flavored beer.

Is it 2.8% fruit and 5% alcohol or vice versa?

One would hope it would be vice versa. Can't you just buy a manguo bin ze and wallop some vodka down the straw? YUMMY!

Sounds and looks horrid, very low alc. content. Might try such a girlie beverage from a bottle on a very hot morning, but other than that, I think I will pass.

I didn't like the mango at all. Pineapple was bordering on OK. I think it's the flavoring they add that makes it smell kind of weird. The alcohol is just low enough to make it compete with a decent-tasting soda. (I'm with Bunks on the fruit and vodka for flavor.)

I also want to comment on the price. Husband just brought 3 cans of German beer home. (Burg, 500ml, 10% alcohol). 3 for 99NT. I think that's better value for money than the TTL stuff.

Where did the "husband" buy it at?

Pretty sure it was Simple Mart. I'll ask him to double-check, as he said "Simple Mart" and then said, "That blue store not Chuan Lian" so I'm not 100% sure (isn't Simple Mart red?). It's called "Burg". Made in Germany. We also had a 5% "Harboe Bear Beer" from Denmark sold as part of the same deal.

OK, got the name of the store: 美廉社
It's coming up in a few FB posts from friends I have too, as a recommended beer, so should be safe to say it's not too bad.

I bought a can of Taiwan Beer Grape flavour. It's really good, but it's not beer. And when I say it's really good, I mean it tastes much better than Fanta Grape, which is so sweet that I can't drink it any more. Grape Taiwan Beer is much better than soda pop, but not nearly as good as just a plain old beer.

I quite like it in the mornings. But only on weekends. During the week, I prefer the cocktail stuff that doesn't make my breath smell of beer when I have to go to work.

Out of curiosity from someone who does not -cannot- drink beer: what the heck does banana beer taste like? I mean, I can imagine acid stuff, like mango, pineapple, litchi... but banana?!

I agree with maoman. Its not beer. My old lady brought home a can of the orange stuff the other night as a "treat" for me. I had a sip and let her finish it. I haven't drunk sodapop for many years and this drink just tasted of nothing but chemicals. Nope. Them guys do pretty well with their 18-day beer. Its damn good. The rest? Giant bodyswerve.
